USTR considering a legislative strategy to preserve trade deals?

Interesting to see USTR pivoting – or at least considering pivoting – towards a legislative strategy to ensure the durability of the trade deals it has negotiated this year.  As I have written elsewhere, this would seem to be a logical way to preserve progress to date if the Supreme Court concludes that the IEEPA-based tariffs are unauthorized, which would cause a key premise underlying the 2025 trade deals to fall away.

Congress should consider codifying some of the tariffs imposed by President Trump so his approach persists beyond his time in office, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Wednesday, suggesting significant support among lawmakers – including some who don’t typically back tariffs.
